Review : Excellent for two and three year olds and everyone else too!
Dumbo is a cinematic milestone and masterpiece of family entertainment. The storyline and characters are well rounded enough (just) to entertain adults and older children and the quality of the animation both holds children's attention and enables them to empathise with the principle characters. In addition, the moral of the story is well presented without being clumsily overstated as in much modern animation.
Both my children have frequently watched this DVD (which first came out (without extras) in Europe in 1999) since they were one and both enjoy it imensely.
I'm both astonished and disturbed that anyone could deem this movie unsuitable for children but can only assume they come from the same group of people who banned Robin Hood books from schools for being 'pro communist' and Shakespeare for being 'too explicit'!
The 'drunken scene' is funny, brief and discrete (all you see is the shadows of characters through canvas). As to fast forwarding through the dream...

Review : Stereotypical? Figure Out How To Use It, Not Abuse It!
Why am I not surprised that there is someone reviewing this classic who trashes it as if they had never seen it and were offended by the cultural sensitivity issues that are part of the film. (See the Tallahassee reviewer titled "Do not purchase this video for children" January 21, 2003) For crying out loud, this script reflects what was normal at the time the film was first released. It's full of classic pieces that of course include a white dominated societal commentary on what was perceived as appropriate black cultural roots at that time. Is it outdated? Sure, so is nearly every other film from that era. Does this make it less of a classic? Absolutely not. In fact, this is the *real* Disney, long before it was sanitized for the Anaheim-Orlando crowd. Is the film inappropriate for a 21st century kid? That's a parental decision, but if you plan to shelter your child from the real history of the U.S., they will have a rude awakening (with all the accompanying psychoses)...

Review : Blu-ray New Special Features
Disney has a very specific formula that they've stuck to. They would release a film and then years later rerelease it in theaters to a new audience of children that hadn't been around for the previous release to rake in additional revenue. Now they continue this release pattern, and have been doing so, on the home video market. There were the VHS, then came the DVD, the special edition DVD's and now we move on to Blu-ray. So most of us already own this film, and unlike the switch from VHS to DVD there is no major benefit or format difference between DVD and Blu-ray as far as playing the film for children goes. That means that currently the Disney releases are being, or at least should be, aimed at the older Disney fans. The ones who appreciate the story and animation enough to shell out cash to buy a film we already have because it means HD quality, hopefully new special features to sweeten the deal and to be honest for the desire of having it in our collections.

Review : THERE IS NO WIDESCREEN VERSION !
I can't add anything to the praise for this film. If you love Disney films, this is considered one of the classics. I just wish to briefly comment on the criticism of the lack of a widescreen version. The first widescreen film, The King and I, was released in 1956. Previous to this all films were full screen. Peter Pan, released in 1953, and a good many of the Disney classics are only available in full screen aspect. This is not the Pan and Scan alteration of an original Widescreen format. The way this film is presented on the DVD is the original aspect ratio; Nothing has been altered. I have seen this so called criticism leveled against many Hollywood classics such as Casablanca, Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz. Please, get off your high horse and stop whinning about how Disney or whatever movie company is ripping you off. None of these films ever had a widescreen version to begin with. Do a little research and you could be content to enjoy these...

Review : A hunny of a movie
It wasn't loaded with special effects, blaring music, big splashy stars or explosions. Summer 2011's Disney theatrical release, "Winnie the Pooh," was exactly the kind of animated film Walt Disney was making in the late '50s/early '60s -- not sweeping epics, nor pop music short packages, but simple, glowing stories packed with rich characterizations (both in writing and animation), superb voice work and hummable tunes.

Some found this film to be too much of a throwback, but how many modern films can truly rekindle the texture and charm of a classic without succumbing to the present day trappings and trends? Like the TV series "Seinfeld" was in its deceptively self effacing claim to be "about nothing," Pooh's power lies shines his basic plotlines, only without the cynicism. A.A. Milne's books had slim storylines, too, and attempts to clutter them have met with mixed results.

First and foremost, "Winnie the Pooh" is one of the funniest movies of the year. I don't...

Review : Fine Family Fun, but: All Reviews for Previous Editions Lumped Together
There are over a hundred reviews for The Aristocats as of this date. They all refer to the previous edition (Disney Gold Classic Edition or whatever they called it years ago when it first came out on dvd).
So now we will have those reviews mixed up with new reviews for the Feb 5, 2008 version which offers more extras and a different aspect ratio. This may make things a bit confusing.

Moving on...
People compare this film to 101 Dalmations. This is Disney's "cat" movie, they say. You can't compare them; they're too similiar somehow.
But they are both decent, cute family films.
Yes, Cruella is scary compared to the bumbling butler Edgar. There is a sense of jeopardy but Dalmations is much stronger in that sense.
Both films were made using the 1960's Xerox method where the resulting animation is more sketchy looking and more close to the original animator's drawings.
The Aristocats is more of a musical, definitely. A few forgettable songs, but...

Review : A fine addition to your Winnie the pooh DVD library
There have been so many Pooh-related feature films, direct-to-video films and television series that it's getting difficult to keep track of them (word is that there is another theatrical feature in the works). To the best of my recollection, "The Tigger Movie" was produced by the television division but was very successful in its theatrical release and was followed up with "Piglet's Big Movie."

This is actually quite a nice film. The amazing thing about these characters is how flexible they are for so many stories. The plot here revolves around Tigger's family background and his search for his "family tree." The animation, apparently done in Japan, is very fluid and suggestive of the earlier films -- and the domestic artists behind it are among the best in the business, including Floyd Norman and Toby Bluth.

John Fiedler, as Piglet, is the one remaining cast member from the original films, with Jim Cummings voicing Pooh and Tigger and none other than John Hurt...

Review : Nature is as indifferent as it is beautiful.
Disneynature has carved a niche for itself in theatrical releases of nature films with varying success. Earth and Oceans were moderately profitable, though they suffered from an episodic structure that did not hold an audience's attention, and terrible narration that distracted pointlessly. The strongest release yet is African Cats, co-directed by one of the architects of Planet Earth, Alastair Fothergill. Following a pride of lions and a mother cheetah, African Cats considers apex predators and their interplay on the productive Mara veldt. The camerawork captures the vastness of the Masai Mara plains while not losing sight of the intimate details essential to understanding the bonds between mother and cub. It lacks the violence of The Last Lions, but none of its storytelling verve, and brings some needed energy to a fairly barren week for film.

African Cats follows events in the lives of Mara, a lion cub who is under the tutelage of her mother, Layla; Sita, a cheetah who...

Title : The Rescuers: 35th Anniversary Edition (The Rescuers / The Rescuers Down Under) (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging)
ASIN : B0084IHVQG
Description : To commemorate the 35th anniversary of an original classic, Disney proudly presents a special 2-movie collection featuring all-time family favorites, THE RESCUERS and THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER. Join two of the world's bravest mice -- Bernard and Bianca -- as they set out on two thrilling rescue missions full of comic adventure while soaring through the Devil's Bayou and flying sky high in the Australian outback. Buckle up for the ride of your life as these tiny heroes with great big hearts outrun and outwit their rivals to save the day. Brimming with lovable characters and unforgettable music, this 2-movie collection is high-flying fun for the entire family! After Walt Disney's death in 1966 and the release of The Jungle Book (1967), his studio seemed to be sleepwalking, producing films that were beautifully animated but lacked compelling stories. The Rescuers (1977) was a welcome bright spot. The first collaboration between the animators who had been working for Disney since the days of Snow White and a cadre of young artists, the film displays an energy and a charm that had been sorely missing for nearly a decade. Based on a series of children's books by Margery Sharp, The Rescuers sends the intrepid mouse Miss Bianca and her reluctant companion Bernard to the rescue of the orphan girl Penny. Among the highlights of the film are Ollie Johnston's animation of Rufus, an aged cat who was essentially a self-caricature, and Milt Kahl's wonderfully flamboyant villainess, Madame Medusa. More than three decades after its release, it's still easy to see why The Rescuers scored a hit with audiences and critics, outdrawing Star Wars in France and Germany. The Rescuers Down Under (1990) is the forgotten film of the Disney renaissance of the '80s and '90s. The first sequel in the studio's history and the first non-musical since Victory Through Air Power in 1943, Down Under brought back Eva Gabor and Bob Newhart as the voices of Bianca and Bernard. The dauntless agents of the mouse Rescue Aid Society go to Australia to help Cody, a boy who's been kidnapped while trying to save a giant eagle from a wildlife poacher. The film includes some thrilling aerial sequences of Cody and the eagle, inspired by the work of Hayao Miyazaki. But Cody isn't a terribly interesting character and much of the story feels by-the-numbers. Although The Rescuers Down Under was eclipsed by The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, which came before and after it, no fan of Disney animation will want to miss this delightful double bill. The color on the Blu-ray transfer is somewhat oversaturated, especially on the older film, so technically minded viewers will want to adjust their TVs accordingly. Review : Disney Animated Classics #23 and #29: Two wonderful films that look better than ever!
The Rescuers was the last feature produced by Walt's legendary team of animators (the nine old men) and is easily their best since Walt's death in 1966. Released in 1977, The Rescuers is a delightful and heartfelt story full of adventure, poignancy and great characters. Both Bernard and Miss Bianca are wonderful creations that compliment each other. Madame Medusa may seem like Cruella De Vil but is not at all forgettable. The voice cast is spot on with Bob Newhart, Eva Gabor, Geraldine Page and the rest giving memorable performances and bringing unforgettable characters to life. The story of these two mice rescuing a little girl keeps you invested the whole time and you care for them very much. The Rescuers may seem a like a little obscure film but the truth is that is a Disney classic through and through.

Released 13 years later in 1990, The Rescuers Down Under was Disney's first official sequel produced by the main studio (not to be confused with a cheapquel). With high...

Review : Disney Animated Classic #33: A wonderful film that should've had a better release
Note: Similar to my review of The Fox and the Hound, I won't mention or review the cheapquel that is included in this set. Is just sad how Disney pairs beautifully done films with utter disgraces.

Now I'll proceed to review the original film.

Pocahontas is blamed as the responsible of finishing the Renaissance period that began with The Little Mermaid. I find those claims utterly inaccurate. While Pocahontas did not achieve the same heights of The Lion King and is not better than that one, is still a wonderful, lush and heartfelt adventure that deserves a better reputation. The animation is just glorious and the music is one of the best Disney has ever produced.

The story has been blamed as being historically inaccurate but come on, is Disney, is any Disney adaptation faithful to its source? I don't think you can expect a history lesson from a Disney movie but you can expect great entertainment and in that front, Pocahontas delivers.

Review : Overlooked Disney classic gets deluxe treatment on 2 disc DVD
Charming to a fault "Lady and the Tramp" continues to be an enjoyable movie fifty years on. "Lady and the Tramp" tends not to be as valued as other Disney animated classics and that's because the story isn't larger than life like the whimsical fantasy of "Peter Pan" and lacks the fairytale charm of "Sleep Beauty" the two films released before and after "Tramp". Featuring a number of marvelous songs and vocal performances "Lady and the Tramp" continues to be a fun film that merely wants to entertain and it does that in spades.

We get a full screen presentation of the film and a widescreen version of the film. Why? Because Disney realizes that the kids will probably watch this on the second TV in the house on occasion. The colors are rich, bright and alive. This puppy is flea free as there aren't any analog or digital blemishes in this marvelous presentation. The film was originally presented in 3.0 "stereo" with a center channel for dialogue for theatrical presentation and...
