Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Pure. Popcorn. Entertainment. That's an exact classification of director Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Think of Transformers 1 on crack. In other words, this sequel took all of the extreme elements that made fans love the first movie and increased them exponentially. The action is nonstop, with battles and explosions from start to finish. The camera (without any subtlety) exploits Megan Fox's hotness to the max. As if she weren't enough, a new sex kitten (Isabel Lucas) is thrown into the equation. Shia LaBeouf is as charismatic as ever, and fills the starring role with ease. And then there's the humor. Sam's parents (Kevin Dunn and Julie White)provided some semi-raunchy laugh-out-loud moments in the first movie, but now they take it to the next level. Sometimes it seems like they are trying a little too hard, but it is still hilarious.

As far as the “plot” goes, the writers didn't waste much time--it's really just a context for the giant-robot death matches and dramatic slow-mo sequences. The movie kicks off two years later where the Autobots have formed an alliance with the U.S. government, creating an elite team led by Major Lennox (Josh Duhamel), in an effort to snuff out any remaining Decepticons that show up. The bad guys keep coming, and it turns out that a much more menacing force than Megatron is out there--and it is looking for something on Earth that is tied to the very origin of the Transformers race. Fans of the franchise will be delighted by the addition of many new robot characters (there are well over 40 in the sequel, versus only 13 in the first). The second Transformers has shaped up to be one of the worst reviewed and most successful movies of all time. This strange pairing is really just an indication that this movie has one purpose: to entertain. Review : Great movies, but new DVD editions are sorely needed.
It seems as though lately, nearly all movie studios are jumping onto a new trend in DVD releases - double, triple, even quadruple features which consist of taking ever-so-slightly related catalogue DVD releases and packaging them together. These are executed in several ways, ranging from simply packaging existing DVDs together, in the case of Buena Vista Home Entertainment's releases, or putting existing DVDs onto flippers, in the case of some of Warner Bros.' releases. Some sets put all the DVDs into one case, while others use a box with slim DVD cases inside. No matter how they're executed, these sets can usually be found for fifteen dollars or less in stores such as Wal Mart.

On one hand, I kinda like this trend. It's a great value for your dollar, and who isn't looking for THAT these days? On the other hand, I feel like if they're going to do this, they could update some of these DVDs.

Review : A Great Blu-ray

To start off I have to say that I enjoyed watching these movies when they first came out in watching these again brings back great memories. These Blu-rays are wonderful and provide a great quality experience for the viewer and on top of this they also have put together a great list of bonus features that my kids really enjoy. Both of these movies are definitely family-friendly and ones that I would highly recommend anyone to watch. The movies are light, fun and offer a great time for all.

Review : What a Great Collection - Filled With Extras
I was originally looking to only replace one DVD movie. However when I went looking on Amazon I saw that the collection was on a Timed Deal on Amazon. It had an extreme price cut and I could not pass it up. However even at the higher price it appears to be a value balancing both the content and price per disk in the set. I believe it to be worth the investment so as one would say the buy is not just a "Roll in the Hay" (pardon the Pun).

Here is the low down on the collection:

1) The Box and Packaging of the disks is very good. Includes a cover box and a plastic multi-disk case. (The disks did not shift out of their spot in shipping) Disks also go in and out of the case easily. The Silk Screening on the Box Art is well done. Great selection of Cover Art which is a picture of Mel Brooks as a "Director".
2) You receive quite a number of movies for the price. Silk Screening on the disks is clean and crisp.
3) The picture quality is better than...

Do not give LionsGate your money on this one! They went as cheap as they could for this collection. All seven movies are jammed onto 3 discs, and they have stripped out all lossless audio in favor of the good ole Dolby Digital. This is the same company that did this to the bluray release of Red, in which they stripped out the lossless audio on the standard bluray without informing anyone. It's not like they had to re-master these movies in HD audio. Most of them already have a transfer with the lossless audio available. Really Lionsgate

Review : UK 4-Disc Complete Bourne Collection
You get the complete Bourne collection in this UK box set. It includes Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, Bourne Ultimatum, and Bourne Legacy. US purchasers should know the UltraViolet codes do not work outside the UK. That's a big minus because you can't access the digital copies or the 2.5 hours of non-disc special features provided by Universal that are available in the US Blu-ray releases of these films (there is still 3 hours of bonus content on the discs themselves that are accessible). I would rate the films 4 stars and this release only 3 stars because it's not a deluxe collection since it only bundles the 4 stand-alone Blu-rays together in one package. Fans who own The Bourne Trilogy may opt to purchase Bourne Legacy separately (yet it remains the weakest of the franchise films). If you can buy this box set at a good price it does work well as a value pack. Ensure you get the region-free release since there is an identical Region 2/B release that does not work on US Blu-ray...

Review : Excellent Blu-ray transfer. ZERO bonus features.
It can be argued that Lilo & Stitch is one of the strongest and most beloved Disney animated films. This holds true for many (especially myself), so you can imagine my excitement when Disney finally announced a Blu-ray release for the film. They even chose to include Stitch Has A Glitch, an excellent follow-up to the series and TV show. This also made me excited for a separate 2-pack with Stitch! The Movie and Leroy & Stitch.

That eagerness quickly faded.

As stunning as the transfer is on this Blu-ray release, it is completely lacking -ANY- bonus features. That's right, no deleted scenes, no special interviews, and ESPECIALLY lacking is the excellent commentary that many fans enjoyed for its thoroughness and loving care towards the film's creation. The back of the box has the audacity to claim that Stitch Has A Glitch is THE bonus feature, "with more fun, laughter and adventure for the entire family". Yes, the movie is a nice supplement to the main film, but it...

Galen claims that the right turn scene is missing on this disc. Apparently Galen isn't aware that Every Which Way but Loose didn't contain any right-turn jokes. All of those jokes appeared in Any Which Way You Can. You can ignore the missing footage claim. Blu Ray quality of this film is lackluster. Films are what they are. Three Star all around for the quality of movies, image, and sound; more nostalgic value than anything else.

Review : Finally The Complete Collection Fans Have Been Waiting For!
This set is (by far) an improvement over previous editions of Halloween. Many of the movies in this set are a repackage of the previous releases of all the Halloween films with a few exceptions. But it is the first time all 10 movies have been released in a package together with similar artwork (so it looks good on the shelf). But, The biggest improvement in this set compared to previous releases is that it DOES include the Extended TV versions of Halloween (which has only been included in the DVD set years ago) and Halloween II (as far as I know never before released) as well as the Producer's Cut of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (which has also never been officially released).

As a Halloween fan I felt that the high price tag was acceptable in order to get the extended and alternate versions of the movies as well as the other bonus features. Having said this, it is still an extremely high price to pay (especially since I own previous versions on VHS, DVD,...

The villains in Fire on Mystic Island (2004) are the Four War Gods, powerful demons on the island of Houraijima, who preserve and augment their power by sacrificing half-demon children. The later films are darker and more violent, although the directors balance the mayhem against familiar comedic elements, especially Kagome and Inu-Yasha squabbling. The features all reflect larger budgets than the television series, as the filmmakers employ a variety of CG effects: explosions, lightning bolts, insects, monsters, and strangling tree roots. Affections Touching Across Time stands out as the handsomest of the films, with designs that suggest the woodblock prints of Kawase Hasui. The set includes CD's of the movie soundtracks and a booklet on the traditional Japanese instruments they feature, although more information on composer Kaoru Wada would have been nice. Review : Great movies, horrific Blu-ray transfer.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE 4-FILM BLU-RAY COLLECTION. This is the perfect completion to anyone's InuYasha collection. Seven box sets of DVDs, the new, concluding series and now the movies. I thought this was going to be the best part. It was, sort of. The presentation of this product is four films on two Blu-ray discs. Upon watching them, I noticed something peculiar: it looked like I was watching it on my own tube sets from the 1990s, not the 40in LCD in 24P mode. The films are presented in 1080i. That's right, INTERLACED. That went out with NTSC, DVD and VHS. I bought these because I honestly don't know of a single 1080i Blu-ray on the face of the earth. The reason I buy Blu-ray discs is to get the films in a progressive presentation. I don't know what the manufacturers of this disc was thinking, but I say WAIT until they fix this and rerelease it correctly. Four stars for the films, minus one for the sadly cheap interlaced presentation. Very depressing.

New fans to the Tenchi Muyo universe will be in for a treat! Each of these three movies are a good buy and the Blu-Ray transfers look great. I just wish that Funimation could have ported over the extras from the old Pioneer (or Geneon if u prefer) DVDs. Especially the extras from the Tenchi 1 and Daughter of Darkness DVDs. They contained production notes, various Theatrical trailers and TV spots, Interviews, a Tenchi Encyclopedia, hidden angle video, etc. So much left out for the Hard core fan and stuff that the new fan might never see. With these Blu-Rays and DVDs, you get the main course. That's it. No desert.

I just think that Funimation could have done a better job putting these Blu-Rays together. I'm glad to have the Blu-Rays though, and still a highly recommended purchase!

Review : UK 4-Disc Complete Bourne Collection
You get the complete Bourne collection in this UK box set. It includes Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, Bourne Ultimatum, and Bourne Legacy. US purchasers should know the UltraViolet codes do not work outside the UK. That's a big minus because you can't access the digital copies or the 2.5 hours of non-disc special features provided by Universal that are available in the US Blu-ray releases of these films (there is still 3 hours of bonus content on the discs themselves that are accessible). I would rate the films 4 stars and this release only 3 stars because it's not a deluxe collection since it only bundles the 4 stand-alone Blu-rays together in one package. Fans who own The Bourne Trilogy may opt to purchase Bourne Legacy separately (yet it remains the weakest of the franchise films). If you can buy this box set at a good price it does work well as a value pack. Ensure you get the region-free release since there is an identical Region 2/B release that does not work on US Blu-ray...

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Pure. Popcorn. Entertainment. That's an exact classification of director Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Think of Transformers 1 on crack. In other words, this sequel took all of the extreme elements that made fans love the first movie and increased them exponentially. The action is nonstop, with battles and explosions from start to finish. The camera (without any subtlety) exploits Megan Fox's hotness to the max. As if she weren't enough, a new sex kitten (Isabel Lucas) is thrown into the equation. Shia LaBeouf is as charismatic as ever, and fills the starring role with ease. And then there's the humor. Sam's parents (Kevin Dunn and Julie White)provided some semi-raunchy laugh-out-loud moments in the first movie, but now they take it to the next level. Sometimes it seems like they are trying a little too hard, but it is still hilarious.

As far as the “plot” goes, the writers didn't waste much time--it's really just a context for the giant-robot death matches and dramatic slow-mo sequences. The movie kicks off two years later where the Autobots have formed an alliance with the U.S. government, creating an elite team led by Major Lennox (Josh Duhamel), in an effort to snuff out any remaining Decepticons that show up. The bad guys keep coming, and it turns out that a much more menacing force than Megatron is out there--and it is looking for something on Earth that is tied to the very origin of the Transformers race. Fans of the franchise will be delighted by the addition of many new robot characters (there are well over 40 in the sequel, versus only 13 in the first). The second Transformers has shaped up to be one of the worst reviewed and most successful movies of all time. This strange pairing is really just an indication that this movie has one purpose: to entertain. Review : After some research...
After originally looking at this item and its reviews, I was worried that I wouldn't get the version I'd grown up with (I'm 26) - people were complaining about censorship and edits (one review said the movie was only 90 minutes long). I checked the VHS I own - it's 120 minutes. So, of course, I was concerned.

However, after looking into it, this seems to be one of the most complete copies that exists. I looked for images of the back of the actual box - the running times are listed as 125 minutes for Fantasia, and 75 minutes for Fantasia 2000. Both of these times are LONGER than their respective VHS times. The original roadshow release of Fantasia was 125 minutes long, so it sounds as if everything has been restored.

This leaves the censorship. The "censored" scenes haven't been in the releases of the film since 1969, so I'd never even seen them. After viewing the "uncut" version on YouTube, I have to say that this is VERY minor, and I don't miss it at all...

They contained production notes, various Theatrical trailers and TV spots, Interviews, a Tenchi Encyclopedia, hidden angle video, etc. So much left out for the Hard core fan and stuff that the new fan might never see. With these Blu-Rays and DVDs, you get the main course. That's it. No desert.

I just think that Funimation could have done a better job putting these Blu-Rays together. I'm glad to have the Blu-Rays though, and still a highly recommended purchase!
