Review : Great movies, but new DVD editions are sorely needed.
It seems as though lately, nearly all movie studios are jumping onto a new trend in DVD releases - double, triple, even quadruple features which consist of taking ever-so-slightly related catalogue DVD releases and packaging them together. These are executed in several ways, ranging from simply packaging existing DVDs together, in the case of Buena Vista Home Entertainment's releases, or putting existing DVDs onto flippers, in the case of some of Warner Bros.' releases. Some sets put all the DVDs into one case, while others use a box with slim DVD cases inside. No matter how they're executed, these sets can usually be found for fifteen dollars or less in stores such as Wal Mart.

On one hand, I kinda like this trend. It's a great value for your dollar, and who isn't looking for THAT these days? On the other hand, I feel like if they're going to do this, they could update some of these DVDs.

Review : A Great Blu-ray

To start off I have to say that I enjoyed watching these movies when they first came out in watching these again brings back great memories. These Blu-rays are wonderful and provide a great quality experience for the viewer and on top of this they also have put together a great list of bonus features that my kids really enjoy. Both of these movies are definitely family-friendly and ones that I would highly recommend anyone to watch. The movies are light, fun and offer a great time for all.

Dumbo is a cinematic milestone and masterpiece of family entertainment. The storyline and characters are well rounded enough (just) to entertain adults and older children and the quality of the animation both holds children's attention and enables them to empathise with the principle characters. In addition, the moral of the story is well presented without being clumsily overstated as in much modern animation.
Both my children have frequently watched this DVD (which first came out (without extras) in Europe in 1999) since they were one and both enjoy it imensely.
I'm both astonished and disturbed that anyone could deem this movie unsuitable for children but can only assume they come from the same group of people who banned Robin Hood books from schools for being 'pro communist' and Shakespeare for being 'too explicit'!
The 'drunken scene' is funny, brief and discrete (all you see is the shadows of characters through canvas). As to fast forwarding through the dream...

Review : Disney's 'Frozen' the best animated feature in more than a decade
It's unrealistic to watch animated movies these days and be able to call one better than all the rest - and that goes for Disney movies, too. I have loved this movie ever since my mom took me to see it in the theater when I was 6 years old. Ever since (even after I was allowed to watch actual scary halloween movies) this has been my very favorite movie to put in the DVD player, pop some popcorn and have fun.

Review : Excellent Blu-ray transfer. ZERO bonus features.
It can be argued that Lilo & Stitch is one of the strongest and most beloved Disney animated films. This holds true for many (especially myself), so you can imagine my excitement when Disney finally announced a Blu-ray release for the film. They even chose to include Stitch Has A Glitch, an excellent follow-up to the series and TV show. This also made me excited for a separate 2-pack with Stitch! The Movie and Leroy & Stitch.

That eagerness quickly faded.

As stunning as the transfer is on this Blu-ray release, it is completely lacking -ANY- bonus features. That's right, no deleted scenes, no special interviews, and ESPECIALLY lacking is the excellent commentary that many fans enjoyed for its thoroughness and loving care towards the film's creation. The back of the box has the audacity to claim that Stitch Has A Glitch is THE bonus feature, "with more fun, laughter and adventure for the entire family". OK to clear up some confusion about the latest incarnation of "The Muppet Movie" this edition is celebrating the fact that Kermit always a bit green around the gills is 50 years old. That said I'm completely unimpressed with this edition of a classic family movie. Review : "I am not looking for the best players...
I am looking for the right ones". And that is really what this movie is all about: the power of people working together as a team instead of individually. Nowadays, we are tired of seeing superstars in different team sports that think that they are the greatest thing in the world and that their teammates are just the supporting cast. This is true in the US mostly in football and basketball, and in other countries in the word mainly in soccer.

I was born in Uruguay and lived there until the year 2000, and therefore am a big soccer fan. I am tired of seeing the players from my country excel in their European clubs only to see them fail miserably when they play for our country. The reason is that several of them think they are stars when they come to play for Uruguay and neglect to play as a team. They should all get together and give this movie a try!

Review : Offensive Slap in the Face to Disney Fans

For the 50th anniversary of on of their classic animated films, Disney has released such a sloppy, ugly, amateurish effort that I am ashamed to say that I pre-ordered.

The picture quality is washed out, blurry and lacking any detail - it has been digitally manipulated to the point where it looks like a kids paint by number coloring book.

I have never returned a Disney Blu-Ray and asked for a refund - in fact, I have never returned ANY Blu-Ray based on quality and asked for a refund - but I will now.

I would rather watch my years old SD DVD than this horrific mess. It's that bad, and the DVD is actually SUPERIOR quality.

Stay far away.

And Disney - do the right thing and offer fans a replacement and re-pressing. This is utterly embarrassing. It's obvious you don't care about this title, but fans would have had a superior product if you had simply reissued the DVD.

Review : The Help: The best novel adaptation in a loooong time.
"Oscar season", as it's typically referred to, is a period of time, usually beginning in late November, and ending in late January. This year, it starts early, with "The Help".

"The Help" is based on the well-known novel by Kathryn Stockett, someone who I had never heard of before discovering this film and book. For the most part, when I hear about a film that I want to see, I try to read the book prior to viewing the movie, to enhance the whole experience. Usually I get bored, or stop mid-way through one of these said books, before I end up watching the movie.

But "The Help" grabbed me. Stockett kept me on a leash, dying to know what happened next, and I ended up finishing its 530 pages in a few sittings. And, I'm glad it did, because "The Help" is not only the best movie I've seen this summer, but it very well could be the best one I see all year.

Review : probably THE BEST ANIMATED FILM !

After the movie Little Mermaid came out, Disney would make 3 other animated masterpieces: Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, that would change the way we looked at animated films, somthing new, something wonderful.But of all these 4 great animated films, in my opinion The Lion King was the greatest. The music was just, beautiful, and Scar was probably the most EVIL Disney villain the was ever drawn on a piece of paper.You hated him, but you almost liked him, because he was so great. But probably the best part of the movie was Simba's pal's Pumbaa and Timon, the BEST Disney characters EVER!!! The scene where Timon was doing the hula, I thought I was going to die from laughing. Anybody from toddler to 10 year old to 60 year from boy to old woman to teenager and so forth will, without a doubt, LOVE this movie, everyone.

Review : Movie 5 stars, 3D -- only about a 2.5
I own a quite a few 3D movies, so perhaps my expectations were too high, but despite some stellar reviews on the 3D on this product by some other reviewers, I have to tell you the quality is FAR less than made-for-3D movies such as Despicable Me.

Do you remember those "3D" games/cartoons where the "3D" effect as you were supposedly either walking, or in a car, going along the road was the part closest to you moved slow, then there was a part in the middle that moved a bit faster, and then the part near the top of the screen moved the fastest? This is only a step above that. It is more like layered 2D images than true 3D. Yes, there are a few parts where true 3D is apparent, but those are few and far between.

Sorry, I can't help but think that some of the people have either let their love of the movie color their perception of what good 3D looks like, or they simply do not have many 3D movies to compare to.
