Two dinosaur salesmen (Vince Vaughn/ Owen Wilson) find themselves as interns at Google. They are fish out of water as they have to deal with the youth and terminology of the tech world. They are divided into teams with our duo on the misfit team which leads to formulaic results.

This is a fun film which doesn't offend. The humor is not overwhelmingly laugh out loud, by rather tritely funny. That is not to say it is bad, but simply lacks originality.

Worth a view. Makes for a good rental.

Some haterade going around - but view with confidence; Seth Macfarlane and crew are dialed in and rock-solid in this screwball western. Sarah Silverman is priceless as Ruth, the hooker with a heart of gold. Review : I regret owning this - it's a mystery train to nowhere
In spite of a slow start, this movie had some potential, once the characters have their uncanny encounter in the desert. Then it all starts going downhill as the movie hits you with one weird thing after another, with nothing to connect them or suggest some larger whole that they could be part of. Each scene is full of cool strangeness, but they keep raising more and more unanswered questions, and the movie itself seems undecided about what is really going on, pointing in one direction, then another, and finally just giving up and ending on a really bizarre FX shot that hangs a huge question mark over the whole deal. This isn't a story - this is bits of stories scattered about like jigsaw pieces, and maybe they all fit together, but maybe not, and I personally didn't have enough faith left in the film after that last reveal to go back and waste time on the pieces scattered about.

This movie could have been good, but it turned out as disorganized junk. If you liked the grab...

Review : 4.5 stars... Jon Favreau shines in this foodie comedy (with outstanding soundtrack)
"Chef" (2014 release; 115 min.) brings the story of Carl Kasper (played by Jon Favreau), a celebrity chef at a place called Gauloises (yes, the French cigarettes!) that is owned by Riva (played by Dustin Hoffman). Carl has just gotten a terrible review from the city's most important food critic (played by Oliver Platt), and unknowingly Carl starts a flame war via Twitter. When Carl is forced by Riva to stick to the ol' menu, he quits/is fired and needs to figure out something else. In a parallel story, we see Carl interacting with his 10 yr. old son Percy (played by newcomer EmJay Anthony), who is unhappy about his parents' divorce and desperately needs Carl's attention. To tell you more would spoil your viewing experience, you'll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.

Couple of comments: first and foremost, this is a veritable tour-de-force from Favreau who stars, directs, co-writes and co-produced this movie. How refreshing is it to see him do this, light...

Theatrical version. There may be spoilers.

ScarJo in an action flick. How could I resist. Oh sure, she's been Black Widow in black leather in "The Avengers" but so far, a secondary character. Here, Scarlett Johansson plays Lucy, a sometime college party girl living in Taiwan. She's duped into taking a briefcase to a man in a downtown skyscraper. She's quickly grabbed by some large Chinese goons and taken to the main man, Mr. Jang (Min-sik Choi). She doesn't know what's in the case but is ordered at gunpoint to open it. The bad guys, expecting a possible bomb, hide behind walls and shields. It doesn't explode.

It contains 4 packs of a blue powder substance. I'll call it WD-40 because I can't remember what its name is but it is a high powered growth substance found in fetuses. Mr. Jang and his evil-doers have found a way to create a synthetic form which provides a new high for druggies. He plans to introduce it to Europe and America using 4 mules to...

Review : Just about everything you could have wanted from the first movie
Last year’s “The Purge” was a standard Hollywood thriller with a stellar premise. A good ten years into the future, unemployment is way down and violent crime is practically non-existent thanks to a yearly event called The Purge. For twelve hours every year (7PM-7AM, sometime in March), all crime including murder is legal. Emergency services are turned off. This tends to weed out the poor, the homeless, or “non-contributing members of society.”

The first film focused on an affluent family whose home was broken into by others jealous of their wealth. It made for a serviceable home invasion thriller, but was truly a missed opportunity given the rich concept. “The Purge: Anarchy” feels like what the first film should have been. It’s not much different than “Crash,” where unrelated characters and stories come together and create a common bond among vastly different people.

Review : If You Love Van Damme - Buy It...

Here's my take. I've watched all of these movies before and the best one's I like are Hard Target and Sudden Death. It's nice to see Sudden Death coming to Bluray as that is one of my favorites. Whether or not the overall price is good, it all depends on the quality. You know how the studios is. Most of the time with older movies they'll just repackage DVD content, and the Bluray edition doesn't look any better than the DVD. I hope that is not the case with this set, but we'll see. Nonetheless, if you're a fan of Van Damme and you don't have these movies, then this is one collection you'll definitely want to get. I'll give it 4 stars for now…

Review : If You Love Van Damme - Buy It...

Here's my take. I've watched all of these movies before and the best one's I like are Hard Target and Sudden Death. It's nice to see Sudden Death coming to Bluray as that is one of my favorites. Whether or not the overall price is good, it all depends on the quality. You know how the studios is. Most of the time with older movies they'll just repackage DVD content, and the Bluray edition doesn't look any better than the DVD. I hope that is not the case with this set, but we'll see. Nonetheless, if you're a fan of Van Damme and you don't have these movies, then this is one collection you'll definitely want to get. I'll give it 4 stars for now…

Review : 4 Stars For Film, 3 Stars For Blu-Ray

In whole, It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie is an overall satisfying and refreshing TV movie, and one of the best of the muppet movies, 4/5. The Blu-Ray however is okay. There's nothing new this time around. At least with the 2010 release we got a dumb CD filled with holiday songs, and widescreen format. There are no new bonuses, and the two that were booted from the 2010 DVD, but were on the 2003 DVD include Inside Pepe's Studios, Muppet Biographies, and Hidden Easter Eggs are not included. Even with that being said, it's still really nice for this film to see the light of Blu-Ray, and the Digital HD with UltraViolet is neat, so I guess $14 for a good film, and decent special features, including outtakes and deleted scenes makes this Blu-Ray a good buy if you already don't own the film. If you do own the film on VHS then you should upgrade, but if you own the 2010 or 2003 DVD then it's your choice, unless you want to upgrade to a Blu-Ray, and out it part of your collection.

As with the "Wizard of OZ" BD set, the GWTW set is elaborated -- and made "spendier" -- with the addition of material that might not be absolutely necessary for one's enjoyment. The box is covered in red velvet flocking (green would have been more appropriate and amusing -- qv, Carol Burnett). There's a CD "sampler" of Max Steiner's score, running a measly 45 minutes. Given that Max took excessive scoring to the max (Bette Davis had some pointedly unkind things to say about it), a "sampler" could have filled two CDs, and still not have exhausted the music (though the music might exhaust you). *

As with "OZ", there's a 52-page hard-backed book that's largely content-free, plus reproductions of some of the watercolor set-design paintings (in their own little envelope), and various memoranda sent to and from David O. Selznick. I was expecting a reproduction of Gerald O'Hara's pocket watch, but it likely would have been of even poorer quality than the kiddie watch in the "OZ"...
